Explore cheap Bluetooth devices SHWM BLE Scanner & ESPHome Generator v0.5.2

Discover advertisements from affordable Bluetooth scales, thermometers and other BLE gadgets — no vendor app or cloud account required for supported broadcasts. Recognizing a device is not the same as having ESPHome YAML: our LC026 scale is currently the only profile with independently verified YAML generation.

Before flashing: the initial BLE Scanner replaces any firmware already on your ESP32. Back up an existing ESPHome configuration first. Use a spare board when possible. Only click Install on the correct USB device.

Step 1 · Choose your ESP32 (one time)

Select the board you own, e.g. ESP32 DevKit / WROOM-32. This same selection is used for the temporary scanner AND the final ESPHome YAML.

Type to search.

Check your ESP32 model and USB port.

Checking BLE Scanner firmware…

Warning: installing the scanner replaces any firmware already on your ESP32. Back up first or use a spare board. If your model is “YAML preview only”, use a supported ESP32 for live scanning or import a compatible scan rather than attempting an unsupported installation.

Step 2 · Scan nearby Bluetooth devices

Live scan: install the temporary SHWM BLE Scanner firmware from Step 1, connect your ESP32 via USB, then click Scan nearby BLE and select its COM port. Wake your Bluetooth device to make it advertise. Devices and supported decoded measurements appear below. Normal ESPHome firmware does not send scanner JSON data; this website cannot read ESPHome sensors automatically.

Ready to scan. Requires an ESP32 with temporary SHWM scanner firmware and USB cable.

Live results: new devices are added to the bottom of a stable list. Measurements refresh roughly once per second; BLE capture continues at full speed. Click Select to view a device. No devices? Check the scanner firmware, USB port and whether your gadget is advertising.

List refresh: ~1 second. Capturing every received packet.

Copy JSON lines from the SHWM USB Scanner serial output and paste them below (one JSON object per line). Then click Read pasted data. You do not copy RAW into Decoded — both are automatically displayed in Step 3.

Step 3 · See the result and copy YAML

No device selected. Click Scan nearby BLE in Step 2 and wake your device.

Your decoded reading will appear here.

YAML requires a verified, stable LC026 scale reading. Other recognized devices do not yet have validated YAML templates.

Advanced: original data (RAW) and decoded details

RAW is the original Bluetooth message. Decoded is what the decoder understood. Both are read-only results; you do not paste anything between them.

Your YAML will target the ESP32 selected in Step 1. Change board ↑

Only the independently validated LC026 scale profile has a YAML generator today. Results recognized by Theengs do not automatically become ESPHome sensor drivers.

Step 4 · Paste YAML into ESPHome and install

  1. Click Copy YAML above and open ESPHome Device Builder.
  2. Create/edit your ESP32 device, open its YAML editor, and paste the generated YAML instead of the starting example. Match the board selected in Step 1.
  3. Set your Wi-Fi, API and OTA values in secrets.yaml, click Validate, then Install → Manual download to compile the final firmware.
  4. Disconnect the live scanner. Flash the compiled firmware using ESPHome's supported USB method or ESPHome Web. Add the ESPHome device in Home Assistant.

Remember: installing ESPHome replaces the temporary scanner. ESPHome Web does not compile YAML; compilation happens in Device Builder. Choosing an ESP32 board alone cannot generate code for unknown Bluetooth devices.
